Life in RIT is like a rolling toilet paper, the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes quite sad actually. Day goes by ...so quickly.

I guess it's time huh. Nothing lasts forever or so.

The break has been good. Cleaned my apartment, worked long hour in the lab, played some badminton, snowed some board. pretty much looking forwards for the next quarter. BOdy is gonna ache tomorrow for sure. Snowboarding was one hell of a body crusher but it's a nice sport.

let's see what else... oh yea we got election going on in my place. i heard it's quite a turner this year.oh well.

Took 2 exams today. One being biochemistry and other being Math Method econ.

Biochesmitry not much to say, it's all good and i just blurted out alot.

Math Method.. well i think this is probably the last math course i will be taking as an undergraduate that is. The final for this one is breathtaking.
I haven't felt such a time constrain and a mental block for awhile. Everything was ok until the last question ( not the extra credit but the question b4 the extra credit).

I pretty much finished everythin sooner but the last question waas the sort tat really makes me thinks real bad, and what's intersting is i think so hard it never comes to sense to me . So last question Kaput sort of. I felt happy though, it's been awhile since i couldn't manage to solve a problem subject to a time constraint.

I guess i am lucky i got stuck in the last question.The extra credit question, i look at it i know i can do it but god that last question is just way too interesting to not be pondered upon.

In any case, after the exam, i am happy in many ways. Putting it in economic sense.

I somehow max my utilitity subject to a time constraint by spending more time on a super hard question than a moderately hard extra credit.

maximize U ( P(a,b,c,d,e) ) subject to 120 = a+b+c+d+e

a,b,c,d,e = time on question a,b,c,d,e respectively.

Utility is a function of brain power(P) spent on each question. The time i spend on one question and the difficulty of the question is would reflect the use of my brain power. So in my function of P.

It probably will look like P = 1a+2b+3c+5d+3e . the coefficient being the difficulty of the question.

Let's just say U = P . utility is equal to the amount of brain power i use.

Dilemma is lame.
Recently i applied for GRad School in RIT then today i got a phone call from someone i met in RAS meeting telling me that he's willing to make exception to deadline just so that i can apply to the grad school at his place. Now i m kinda torn. Master in RIT or PhD in SUNY ESF. this is tough decision . BOth got pros and cons. Maybe need to do a benefit and cost analysis lol.

i think if everything go well i will be graduating may the year. After that either i will be continuinig into grad school , most probably not in the USA or i will look for a job. HOpefully i can end up in a research field somewhere, a university maybe. that would be at least what i am hoping for for NOW. THings might change. i DOn't really like working in a company, it's just too.. arg couldn't find a good word to describe, something related to boredom and lifeless. If u choose a career in Uni or college, the best thing about it is there'll be students around your working environment. i prefer working with the young souls or those with the desire to learn. Must start getting application out this christmas break.

School just started. first day of class , already got massive snow fall, been snowing nonstop since yesterday night i believe never stop...
well if that goes on, should be all set for snowboarding this weekend .

taking 2 science classes and 2 econ classes.

i sure hope the lecturer for benefit cost analysis is good coz the textbook is definitely heavyload. but we'll see how it goes, if the course is mad fun maybe the textbook would eventually be a good book to read.

been watching heroes episode . just finished season 1 . still thinking whether or not to go for season 2. i like heroes primarily coz of the genetic thing. However that geneticist talks about the thing like it's damn easy when genetics is in fact quite a complicated subject, i would appreciate it actually if he can talk more about how genetics work on these ppl but oh well this is for public audience i guess i can't be too selfish. but i do believe no doubt somewhere out there, ppl like these do exist . ( I AM SO "SERIAL"!!)* no kidding'. they are just hiding out there. time will tell. part of it is luck too. u need certain mutation, a certain sequence of mutations to get what u want, coz as u know , most mutations we see nowadays lead to genetics diseases like alkaptonuria, diabetes etc. we right now for sure don't know much yet even with the human genome project going rollin'.DNA sequence and original reading frame might shed light on it but to truly see how this mutation can work is to see it in real life not on the computer or seomthing. change the genotype,OBSERVE the phenotype. that's how it rolls.

on the other hand, lab is closed during ht ebreak and i cultured something b4 the break , just hope no one dies starving in the lab.

DOne with 3 out of 4 finals in one week. with 2 exams on the same day somemore. hellish. In any case, i learned a valueable lesson this week. B4 taking exam, no one hsould be taking coffee. You don't want hyperactive brain during the exam or else stuff will not make sense in the exam nor will u want a crashed brain during exam, then u won't be able to even think.

nevertheless coffee tastes really good . take it while u are studying is fine but not anytime b4 the exam.

Ok guys..
here is what i have been eating for breakfast these few days. Was down with fever recently, kinda recovered overnight though. anyways here they are.

this morning, due to that sickness, gotta eat porridge only. the soy sauce is so damn dark and thick but no taste, i thought i put in too much but 1 drop of this soy sauce can probably turns 1 gal of water into diluted crap water. damn that apple right there must be one day old at least. that's what u got if u eat an apple while playing dota and not having a trash can near u. bad bad me.

breaskfast a few days ago. oatmeal with milk. slimy to the max =.=.
tasteless too . it can fill me up for at least 3 hours though.

This is the ultimate best oatmeal i have ever discovered so far. U take yogurt and just dump it into raw oatmeal. i only do milk and oatmilk coz i run out of yogurt recently. BUT seriously this is a must-try. peach flavored yogurt is my fav right now.

Spice girls,,, backstreet boy ,,, U2 ,, goo goo dolls,, all these will be something like the stuff your parents used to listen to when they were young .. think The carpenters, bee gees, paul anka, john lennon etc. THis musical cycle will go on and one until the whole world turns deaf on itself.

So summer has been great in rochester , i think i talked about it a few posts ago but oh well . i like it and great things ought to be shared together-gether. More people will be coming back starting next week. School is starting soon . The whole school cycle shall begin soon. Fall- winter- spring .

Fall is normally the time when we get our engine warm for the harsh and rather fun academic year. Then winter follows, harsher still,, jsut think about having to wake up early in the morning to go to classes and walking from one department to another on a snow covered pavement. The glacial breeze , the facial freeze will haunt you throughout winter. Everything becomes harder in winter. Darkness prevails during this period, less sun and more cold. Harsh indeed. Spring shall come but slower when you're in rochester, even though it's stated in the academic book that it's spring quarter, snow is still messing around and stickin' on the shoes, begging for forgiveness, asking for an extension , asking for the permission to stay. One month later, the sun finally mustered enough courage to show his face and melt away the last bit of snow on the ground. Blue and yellow ,together bring green into the eyes of us eventually. The long awaited spring finally springs itself forward.

Am looking forward for another year of academic rush. Goals have been basically the same.. i suppose for every student, generally it would include .. getting great results, making more friends and all that. Stuffs like these will happen normally even if you dont set goals sometimes. As long as you be real to ppl, put your best foot forward etc , they just come . Setting a goal gives pressure that sometimes can be bad .
Talk about pressure hmm....most of the time academic pressure is avoidable or perhaps made minimal.

i worked at an accounting firm for 3 weeks after i got back primarily to meet up with friends. i used to work there b4. learned some accounting stuff. hopefully next time when i m gonna do income tax stuff it will be easier.

went to klang met up with some old friends . discover US education stuff.ate some bak kut teh..

this break...the most important thing would be to take a break from the life in USA.

hope the new background brings in some fresh feeling xtending from malaysia to aussie to the U OF A... i know pretty much who's reading my blog just by looking at ur location haha. anyways, i kinda miss my university abit now, staying home is fun but i would love it to go back to the lab and do some work. All play no work also cannot arg..feel weird as well. perhaps i should be counting the day i will be going back . i think the fact that you can stay on campus makes u like ur uni more because u can go there(uni) anytime you want to do whatever you want. no need to think about driving to school everyday when u can just walk/jog/cycle there. it's nice waking up early to the ray of the college sun . Your school becomes your true home sometimes, you met friends , close friends whom later you go out with from time to time , go play sport, work out , classes together etc . Of course it won't last because there's this thing called time, sooner or later you will have to grad and depart. so... do everything memorable while u are still in college. with the 100% freedom from parental control ..do whatever u feel like doing, whatever... don't look back in regret .

First and foremost, 4 years in college is good enough to experience the competition and learn to adapt to it. Make it simple, sometimes an undergraduate can be better than a graduate even though both are from the same institute. It's not the matter of how long you have studied, it's the matter of how efficient you have studied and how much you choose yourself to be exposed to the resources availble in front of you. When time is running out, you tend to value your resource more and try to get as much as you can before you are out of the states. It prepares you for the competitive world outside better. Remember when you are out there, you don't have the "extra time" you get therefore those who are more competitive will stand out better. Giving them more years to study in the United States might not be a good idea. Instead of being more competitve you get the opposite effect.

2nd, before pursuing a master or phD it's best to seek how useful your field of focus is going to be in the future or to your country. If there're that many ppl already pursuing let's say immunology, an additional phD into the field might not make much difference. THat field has reached it maximum capacity and in the end overflowing of immunologists brings detrimental effects to the scientific community. Law of diminishing return. It's like having too many workers in your factory that your factory can take. Efficiency decreases due to increasing labour. Some ppl just wanna have a phD or master just for the sake of having it.

Go study 4 years , get a degree , come back see how's the situation in your homeland and think again about where you wanna be.
That's way better than [4 years--> oh snap i get to pursue my master, yeah i like this field ,sure i will take it , another 4 years later, ooh,, no demand anymore...cheap labour for the lose]

If they don't get competitive after 4 long years of college what makes u think that letting them stay will?

THe thing about research is you deal with failure most of the time so frequent that you're always close to giving up. Failure is such a good friend sometimes .However , it's through failure that you realize you still need to work it up , brush it up and man it up. It makes you a better person overall if you do learn from your failure.

Sometimes i admit it's discouraging indeed after i look at the result of my protocol. Can't wish it away can i? Disappointment and failure.

Normally what i do is go home and ask myself what could have possibly went wrong then
Name out the possible problems one by one and thus creating more roads for myself to walk along when i thought that's the dead end.

You just don't give up when you reach a dead end , you walk back you backtrack and look for possible ways out of it.

In my world, sleeping solves a lot of things esp depression. First depression induces sleep, the sleep deactivates the depression, a very fine mechanism .
and u say sleeping is overrated.
Well besides that, after u took a nap or something, there's no way u gonna go back to sleep at least for the next few hours. So you can go do stuff that can normally induce sleep in you for example studying.
Another thing about studying is that in order to optimize the absorbance u will need to put on some music so that the brain cells are constantly stimulated to receive signal.
Put on Norah JOnes' record coz it's prolly the only music that actually helps you to study.

It rained a lil bit today in the morning and got all shiny and shit in the morning. I hope it's finally spring because it's been awhile .

I like Rochester for its weather sometimes. When it's cold it's mad cold. BUt when spring comes, it's really really nice. THe sun and the cool wind .. well that just makes my day .You miss the sun so much during the winter and when spring comes you will really say OH WOW it's finally spring. Talk about no regret .

SOrry been busy.
Lab, exams, etc.
Esp organic chemistry. I normally stress slightly more when it's organic chemistry exam.
i will name this "THe ochem period". Our lecturer normally will give out cert after the third exam for those who scored 90 n above continously during the quarter. I got the cert last quarter and if i don't get it this quarter it will be kinda embarassing , well i guess that's how this prof maintains the standard of her students in class, it's working alright but i don't like it. I wasn't really confident with my exam this time so the whole weekend was wasted thinking over this exam . Didn't study during the weekend just trying to waste time because even if i study i will end up thinking about the exam more and lose concentration.Fortunately, luck is on my side i got that cert .
This quarter is coming to an end . Time goes by freaking fast around this time.But anywayz, its been a good quarter. was fun . badminton , gym ,lab etc. and yeah i m no longer the vice president of malaysian club , can finally take a break and ove priority to some other things. It's a good position nevertheless, being able to learn some tipsy leadership skill, communication skill, and organizing skill but it's bout time some other ppl take over this position. Can't just be me the whole while.

Compared to my last winter quarter, wow this quarter is nothing close to my previous one. I didn' slack like last time. Responsibility? Priority? Future? or just less distraction?

Summing all of them up would be a decent answer i suppose.
Responsible as in i handed in my lab report on time, even though sometimes i should have gone consult the TA about a few questions which in the end i either forgot or just dddin't feel like doing it.

Capsaicin high

I cooked something real hot n spicy today and it got me going on wikipedia to look up capsaicin. Apparently , this molecule is non-polar which means it doesn't dissolve in water just like oil. This means.. drinking water won't get rid of the capsaicin. COld water basically just overwhelm the nerve system temporarily. My roomie who got zero tolerance washed the food with water and surely this ddidn't work that well . it sorts of spread the spiciness all over the surface. so in the end , i said use my milk to do the job. it's just 1% fat milk but it works..lol. now that's some cool tecnique neutralizing the spiciness with fat( a non polar substance).

Capsaicin apparently can program cell death in cancer cells through disruption of the mitochondria the power house of a cell. In cancer cells the mitochondria display a high vulnerability to the effect of capsaicin and will go through program cell death ( apoptosis). However, the mitochondria of normal cell will not be affected by this compound.
Could this be a possible cure for cancer?

We'll see we'll see.

It's getting tiring seeing snow everyday .
If it's warmer i still can tolerate but with this kinda subzero condition, it's affecting my lifestyle.

i sincerely believe what got ppl tired easily during winter is because they have to be exposed to severe cold for a certain period of time and during that time, their bodies must have done some extreme modification to ensure heat is circulated well and fast to prevent cell dmg. THis in my opinion would be a very energy consuming process i.e. blood vessel shrinking, conversion of chemical energy to heat energy, increased blow heat flow to respitory tract etc. Very energy demanding.

I do wonder sometimes. What will happen to me when it actually happens?

THen what would the be purpose of my life.

I truly believe that everyone is born with a purpose in his or her life.

He must somehow contribute something to the world be it in a small way or the opposite.

What if one has fulfilled his purpose in life? What's gonna happen next.

However, sometimes a purpose can last throughout his whole life.

Maybe a purpose cannot be completely fufilled. You just try ur best to make sure you are close to attaining it. IT's true sometimes, you want to free the world from cancer. Throughout your life , you could have made major discoveries leading ppl close to finding a cure but you, yourself haven't attained ur main purpose which is to cure cancer. HOwever , you did pave another way for other ppl with the same purpose in life.

However, ther'es one thing that always holds true...

your presence changes the world directly or indirectly.

Everything is connected and related . YOur presence could have changed one person and that particular change in that person changes the world. That could happen. Or it can go through a more complex way.

I am putting some random pics stored in my camera.lets see what i got THis is by far the most disgusting stuff i have ever taken down. WEll it tastes like vanilla ice cream at first, then after the 2nd and 3rd gulp it tastes abit salty and sour and blehh. i poured 10% down the drain or else i m gonna puke white stuff out.
This is good . better than your average sneaker bar.
If i m not mistaken, this one is pretty good but slightly sweeter than usual. Havne't cooked noodle for awhile.

Winter in RIT. nice scene. When i walked pass this place in the afternoon, it's like seeing an ocean of crystals. The scattered reflection was amazing.

Going out for 8am class in the winter morning could be the lamest thing ever for a person.
I used to be one of them but i realize it could be a good thing once in awhile. Early morning, brain all fresh and ready to go. It's better because that way, i am forced and then will get used to waking up early and making more use of the day.

I am trying to graduate by the end of 2008. that's the goal, the plan has been set up. THe only things that might stop me now is how the schedule will turn out. If courses got clashes, then i either have to grad later or try to rearrange the plan again. Took me 2 hours yesterday or so to try to get a plan that will work at least for the time being.

I have been busy i guess but not like real busy. Just don't feel like blogging.
Anywayzzzzzzz...

NO class today due to some extremely icy weather in rochester. It's like i am in an ice world. Everywhere = ice, on the tree, on the grass, everything. Walking on the road could be like ice skating at the ice rink. I will post some pictures when i feel like it.

Bacteria finally showed me some respect, i finally got that procedure to work when i am at the edge of giving up. I thought that's it , time to move on to another experiment but now something showed up on the agar, not just a few but more than what i would expect. Paved a nice way for me to continue my research. Damn all those hours spent in lab at night finally paid off.

Can't wait for summer .

My senior told me i have to start planning already for my future. I have planned it out but not as far as going to grad school yet. I have been thinking , either to be done with bachelor and then come back to malaysia and work or do a master. what interests me about doing master would be being able to make a thesis and defend it. that would be a lot of fun and challenge. On the other hand, if i choose to come back to work, i will be exposed to the real world earlier, be able to farm some real experience.

Yes, maybe that wil be one of my new year resolutions. Figure it out.

Hurt my right chest during workout aka less workout and more fat during that period of time. Starting to like and understand microeconomic. It's like everything starts to make sense.

Finished fall 2006 with satisfaction . MOved to another new apartment with some friends.
Went back to malaysia. Met some friends . Learned some stuff. Discovered some stuff. Many things accomplished i would say.

December
celebrated my birthday in Malaysia. Good to have friends around ya. Used to be family who came with the cake now it's my friends doing it. Nice birthday all in all.
Left malaysia for another half a year . be back again during summer.

Ok this could be weird but one of my friends introduce me to this guy right here and i watched his clips on youtube. it turned out this japanese got some style of his own that i found prettty interesting. HE got guts , no shit.

He used to be only famous in japan now he's known all around the world, america, sweden, german, brazil, now malaysia hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

There're quite a number of his clips in youtube but

the most interesting episode is definitely the one where he played as cupid. Helped a guy to confess to a girl. It's definitely not easy to confess, it takes a lot of courage and mind power. Hard it is. Just have a look at that guy, despite his personal training under mr hard gay, he's still nervous as ever when talking to that girl but oh well who wouldn't when doing this sort of stuff. Even though failed, he's sure lucky enough to have hard gay running toward him and give him a hug . Hard gay he the man lol. I like the background music vey very nice indeed.

HOwever to Ohto , the guy who failed. Don't give up. Confessing to a girl is hard but confessing to a girl on national television is heroic. Perhaps the time hasn't come yet for the girl. I hope he took it well. Time will heal it all up .

Oh, no update for awhile. Sorry the i just finished my exams and stuff like that as i said i don' like to blog when there's upcoming exam. the heart to blog is just not there. Anyway now that break is here. i can finally do some catching up such as cleaning up. My room is quite a mess now i don't even want to take a picture of it lol. It looks disgusting but i will however take a picture of it after i tidy it up hahaha.

Oh yea , i got sick a few days back, headache, coughing, sorethroat etc and then hurt my leg in badminton. Some kinda of challenge surviving without family care but i got it all under control now no worry. No longer that lil boy.

Some remedies that i took durign my sickness.

1. Vicks Nyquil Multi symptom cold/flu relief ( headache and cough)
2. One A day Active Multivitamin pill (boost up immune)
3. Garlic Pill ( sorethroat)
4. ginger tea ( sorethroat)

Cured myself after 6 days
first 3 days were intense .
but after that,it got better.

Even bought an air humidifier to assist the healing of sorethroat.

IN the united states that's will be ur doctor's advice, no antibiotic, all up to ur body adaptive immune response to work it up. However, it's a good thing, next time i will be able to handle flu better.

I think that's about it. I am going to tidy up my room tomorrow so expect something nice tomorrow hehe.

Haven't really been to classes yet so i can't really say whether it's gonna be better than last quarter or the other way. Not much a page turner when i started reading it. it's more like a sleep maker.
However, the longer the story goes , the better it gets.
Just when you thought justice would prevail , it didin't.
And when you finished reading the book , maybe it did...

Started off with a lot of interest coz it's written by Stephen King. Longer u read, the more boring it get, you started to lose hope and feel like returning the book . Just when you're at the edge of saying " meh this book sucks", it took a twist. You just can't seem to let go of the book. And it starts to get more and more interesting after each page. Truly an unexpected story. Truly an art.After that , it takes a long long time for u to forget how truly amazing that piece of story is because it's that DAMN good.

hi, i don't blog often i know hehe. It's 6am here. I have been waking up all the time around 6ish. Well, actually that's when i woke up back in RIT. Actually i kinda miss working out already after just one week stay in Malaysia. I wanna run at the track , i wanna do some situp but there's not much motivation around here to do em. I used to be such a lazy bum back then but summer changed my perception all together. I realized that working out is not about showing off muscle(maybe part of it is) but it's more towards challenging urself. In academic , u challenge urself only or mostly mentally. But in working out, it's mentally and physically. You want to do as many rep as possible. At the beginning everything is easy because you got the energy store in ur body but in the end during the last few be it sit up or push up or lifting, man that's the best part, You will be like gosh this thing is hard as hell, so hard to do that you want to give up. That's the fun part, it's either you give up or you put in 101% of your effort to finish it. Only with pure determination that you can do it. Physically you are capable of doing it even with all the muscle pain but what's stopping u is your mental side.

I personally like the feeling after workout. Although you are all worn out , but on the other hand you are mentally awake,, like the brain has been stimulated or something. Besides that, your appetite improves significantly. All in all it feels good hehe.

I will be taking badminton advanced course this winter and then will be running on track + working out. That... should be fun.

Sad, i went for a hair cut and in the end what i got left is pretty much like a crew cut which i can do it myself -.-''

Now i look more like a nerd with the weird crewcut like but not crewcut hair . sad indeed. Pictures? yeah maybe i will post some. Guess i will be wearing hat for the next few weeks till i got some hair growing out.

Anyway , ok i m back in my hometown. Hot and humid. but the food compensate basically for anything negative ( including this bad haircut i got -.-'')

Just got owned by jetlag slept from 6pm to 1am but meh that's the best sleep i have so far in malaysia.

Rotting at home just playing guitar all day.and erm it's kinda fun i guess but next week i seriously need to study abit for the next quarter or else might be a bit hard to cathc up later on.

Going back real soon...i just hope i didn't forget to bring anything i should have brought back. Actually i did forget to buy a thick novel to read while waiting in the airport. Probably gonna do it tomorrow or else damn i will be bored, so bored. i moved into a new apartment after sufferring in my old one in fall including,,, dirty sink, smelly bathroom,irresponsible housemate. Let's have a look at my new apt.

You can see a 20 inch(at least ) TV right there . NOt mine but in my room lol. Now my room can finally take visitor. The bed is not mine too. So many good stuff, a significant upgrade from my previous room that's for sure. If i have wireless @ the airport i will blog more later.Now all i am thinking about is boarding the plane back to mAlaysia tomorrow. holla.
